Free subscription tracker template

A ready-made spreadsheet for every subscription you pay for: name, price, billing cycle, category, status and next renewal date. Works in Google Sheets, Excel, Numbers and LibreOffice, and imports into the free MapSub tracker if you'd rather have totals and reminders done for you.

How to use it in Google Sheets

  1. Download the CSV, then in Google Sheets choose File › Import › Upload and pick the file.
  2. Replace the example rows with your own. Bank and card statements from the last two months catch most subscriptions; our guide to finding forgotten subscriptions covers the rest.
  3. Add the formulas below in columns K to M and fill them down.

How to use it in Excel

  1. Open the CSV in Excel, then File › Save As › Excel Workbook (.xlsx) so your formulas are kept.
  2. Add the formulas below. Format the "Next renewal" column as a date.

Formulas to add

Put these in row 2 and copy them down. They turn every price into a monthly and yearly cost the same way the subscription cost calculator does (weekly plans use 52.18 charges a year).

ColumnFormula
Monthly cost (column K)=B2*SWITCH(C2,"weekly",365.25/7/12,"monthly",1,"quarterly",1/3,"semiannual",1/6,"annual",1/12,1)
Yearly cost (column L)=K2*12
Days until renewal (column M)=IF(F2="","",F2-TODAY())
Total per month (anywhere)=SUMIFS(K:K,E:E,"<>cancelled",E:E,"<>paused")

Spreadsheet or tracker?

A spreadsheet is flexible and yours to change. The MapSub tracker does the upkeep: it rolls renewal dates forward on its own, lists the next 30 days of charges, spots overlapping services and rarely used plans, and exports reminders to your calendar. It keeps your list in your browser only, like a spreadsheet on your own computer. You can start in one and move to the other at any time: the tracker exports the same CSV and imports this template.

Questions and answers

Is the subscription tracker template free?

Yes. Download the CSV, open it in Google Sheets, Excel, Numbers or LibreOffice, and use it however you like. No email address or sign-up.

Why a CSV and not an .xlsx file?

CSV opens in every spreadsheet app and imports straight into the MapSub tracker. Add the formulas below once and save in your app's own format if you want to keep them.

Why does SWITCH not work in my spreadsheet?

SWITCH needs Excel 2019 or later, Microsoft 365, or Google Sheets. In older Excel, use nested IFs: =IF(C2="monthly",B2,IF(C2="annual",B2/12,IF(C2="quarterly",B2/3,IF(C2="weekly",B2*365.25/7/12,B2/6)))).

Can I move from the spreadsheet to the MapSub tracker later?

Yes. Export or save the sheet as CSV and choose Import backup or CSV in the tracker. It reads these exact columns, and also any sheet with at least Name and Price columns.
