How it's calculated

Change % = (new price − old price) ÷ old price
Extra per year = (new price − old price) × charges per year

In the example, $15.49 rising to $17.99 a month is 16.1% more, or $30.00 a year. Over five years at the new price, that is $150.00, assuming no further changes.

Questions and answers

How do I calculate a subscription price increase percentage?

Subtract the old price from the new price, divide by the old price, and multiply by 100. A plan going from $15.49 to $17.99 rises by $2.50, which is 16.1%.

What can I do when a subscription raises its price?

Common options are switching to yearly billing (sometimes locking in a lower effective price), moving to a cheaper or ad-supported tier, sharing a family plan, pausing the service, or cancelling and rotating to another service for a few months.

Do I have to accept a price increase?

Usually the new price applies at your next renewal unless you cancel or change plans before then. Read the price-change notice for the date it takes effect and how to opt out.
