Microsoft's July 2026 price change

Microsoft raised the list prices of its business suites on Jul 1, 2026, announced on Dec 4, 2025 in its Microsoft 365 blog. Microsoft's partner notice says the new prices "will apply to new and renewing customers starting July 1, 2026", so existing customers move to them at their next renewal. Prices per user per month, paid yearly:

Compare like with like

Teams Essentials is the closest match to Slack's paid plans: chat and meetings, nothing else. Microsoft 365 business plans bundle Teams with email, Office apps and storage, so the fair comparison is Slack plus your email and office suite. A team on Slack Pro and Google Workspace Business Starter, for example, pays for two subscriptions per person; see collaboration software prices for Workspace, Zoom and Notion.

Questions and answers

Did Microsoft 365 business prices go up in 2026?

Yes. From Jul 1, 2026, Business Basic went from $6.00 to $7.00 and Business Standard from $12.50 to $14.00 per user per month (paid yearly); Business Premium stayed the same. Existing customers pay the new price from their next renewal. The prices on this page are the new ones.

Is Microsoft Teams cheaper than Slack?

On list price, yes. Teams Essentials is $4.00 per user per month on an annual subscription and Microsoft 365 Business Basic, which adds business email and web Office apps, is $7.00. Slack Pro is $8.75 per user per month on monthly billing. For 25 people that's $1,200.00 or $2,100.00 a year on Microsoft versus $2,625.00 on Slack Pro.

Is Teams free with Microsoft 365?

Teams is included in Microsoft 365 business plans such as Business Basic, Standard and Premium in the US. If your company already pays for one of those, adding Slack is an extra cost for a tool you partly own already.

Does Slack have a free plan?

Yes. Slack Free has no per-user price but limits message history and features; see Slack's pricing page for the current limits.

Why would a team pay more for Slack?

Teams often choose Slack for its integrations, workflow tools and how it handles channels with outside partners. Whether that's worth the difference is a judgment for your team; the calculator gives you the price side of the decision.
