How your total is calculated
Each subscription is converted to a yearly cost, added together, then divided back into a monthly average:
Yearly cost = price × charges per year
(weekly ≈ 52.18 · monthly 12 · every 3 months 4 · every 6 months 2 · yearly 1)
Monthly average = total yearly cost ÷ 12
With the example rows, the total is $699.75 a year, or $58.31 a month on average. The biggest item, AI assistant, is 34% of the total. Weekly plans use 365.25 ÷ 7 ≈ 52.18 charges a year because a year holds 52 or 53 weekly charges depending on the start day.
Where people usually save
- Unused plans. Anything you haven't opened in a month is a candidate to cancel or pause.
- Overlaps. Two video or music services, or two cloud drives, often do the same job. Rotating streaming services month to month is a common way to cut the bill.
- Yearly billing for services you're sure to keep. Check the saving with the monthly vs annual calculator.
- Family or bundle plans when several people in a household pay for the same service separately.
Questions and answers
How do I calculate my total subscription cost?
Convert every subscription to the same period, then add them up. Multiply monthly charges by 12, quarterly by 4, twice-yearly by 2 and weekly by about 52.18 to get a yearly figure; divide the yearly total by 12 for an average monthly cost. The calculator does this for you.
Why is my monthly total different from what my bank shows each month?
Yearly and quarterly plans are charged in lumps, so some months look expensive and others cheap. The calculator spreads them evenly, which is the true average cost you are committed to.
How do I find subscriptions I forgot about?
Search your card and bank statements and app-store purchase history for repeating charges over the last 12 months, and search your email for words like "receipt", "renewal" and "subscription". Add each one here or to the subscription tracker.
Does this include sales tax?
Only if you include it. Enter the amount you are actually charged, tax included, for the most accurate total.
