What each tier includes, in the vendors' words

Price is only half the comparison. These are the inclusions most likely to decide between the plans, quoted from OpenAI's and Anthropic's own pricing and help pages on . We quote rather than summarise because both vendors describe usage limits in their own terms, and both change them often.

Model names and limits change often; the linked vendor pages are the source of truth. Quotes are exact, shortened to one sentence or phrase.

What the price doesn't tell you

Matching prices don't mean matching value. The plans differ in usage limits, which models you can use, file and context limits, and admin features for teams, and both vendors change these more often than prices. We compare prices because they're objective and verifiable; for limits and features, the vendor pages linked above are the source of truth.

If you're deciding as a team, run a two-week trial with a few people on each and compare how often each tool gets used. Unused AI seats are an easy cost to miss: at $20.00 a seat, ten idle seats are $2,400.00 a year. The unused license calculator does that math for your numbers.

Questions and answers

Is Claude cheaper than ChatGPT?

At the $20 tier the monthly price is the same: ChatGPT Plus is $20.00 and Claude Pro $20.00 a month. Claude Pro is cheaper if you pay for a year up front ($200.00, versus $240.00 for twelve months of Plus); OpenAI's US pages didn't show a yearly Plus plan when we checked. ChatGPT has a cheaper paid tier, Go, at $8.00 a month.

Do ChatGPT Business and Claude Team cost the same?

Yes, on list price. Both charge $25.00 per standard seat on monthly billing and $20.00 per seat on yearly billing, and $125.00 or $100.00 for premium seats, with a minimum of 2 seats. Differences are in features, limits and admin tools, not price.

What do the $100 and $200 plans get you?

Higher usage limits and earlier or broader access to features. ChatGPT Pro comes at $100.00, $200.00 and $500.00 a month; Claude has Max at $100.00 and Ultra at $200.00. Each vendor describes limits in its own terms, so compare the plan pages for the features you need.

Which should I choose?

Price won't decide it at the $20 tier, because the prices match. Try both free tiers on your own tasks, then pay for the one you reach for more. Paying for both costs $480 a year.
