Plans added, renamed or removed
- Duo first listed, at $12.99 a month: between Jun 27, 2020 and Jul 1, 2020.
These dates come from archived captures, so they show when a change was first visible, not an official launch date.
What these dates mean
Spotify doesn't publish a dated list of its price changes. The dates here come from the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, which saves copies of public web pages from time to time. For each change we found the last saved copy of a Spotify US plan page showing the old price and the first showing the new one; the change happened between those two dates.
The prices are what Spotify showed new US subscribers after any free trial, per month, before tax. Spotify's support page explains that existing subscribers are "given a one-month grace period before the new price becomes effective", so current members moved to each new price about a month or more after these dates.
Before 2023 the archived pages we used were saved less often, sometimes months apart. The price was the same on both sides of each of those gaps, so no change is hidden in them, but the earliest dates only show when a capture exists, not when the price started.
What to do when the price goes up
- See what the increase costs you over a year with the subscription price increase calculator.
- If two or more people at one address pay separately, Duo or Family is usually much cheaper; the shared plan calculator shows each person's share.
- Compare Spotify with Apple Music and the Apple One bundle on our streaming prices page.
- Keep a note of what you pay and when it renews in the free subscription tracker.

Questions and answers
When did Spotify last raise prices in the US?
The latest increase we found first appeared on Spotify's US pages in Jan 2026: Duo $16.99 to $18.99, Family $19.99 to $21.99, Individual $11.99 to $12.99, Student $5.99 to $6.99.
How much was Spotify Premium originally?
Premium Individual was $9.99 a month in the earliest US capture we used (Aug 25, 2014) and stayed there until Jul 2023. It is $12.99 now, 30% more.
How much has Spotify Family gone up?
Family was $14.99 in 2016 and is $21.99 now (47%). It has gone up 4 times, more often than any other plan.
Do current subscribers pay the new price straight away?
No. Spotify's US support page says existing Premium subscribers are emailed and get a one-month grace period before the new price applies, unless they cancel. So the dates on this page are when new subscribers saw the price; your own bill changed later.
Is Spotify Duo worth it over two Individual plans?
At today's prices Duo is $18.99 a month for two accounts, against $25.98 for two Individual plans, a saving of $83.88 a year. Both people must live at the same address.
