How we calculate
Every number on MapSub comes from a small set of formulas, written once and tested against hand-checked answers before each release. Last reviewed 2026-11-01.
Billing cycles
To compare plans that bill on different schedules, we convert each price to a yearly cost:
Yearly cost = price × charges per year
weekly 365.25 ÷ 7 ≈ 52.18 · monthly 12 · every 3 months 4 · every 6 months 2 · yearly 1
Average monthly cost = yearly cost ÷ 12
Weekly plans use the long-run average of 52.18 charges a year, because a calendar year holds 52 or 53 weekly charges depending on the start day.
Renewal dates
Monthly, quarterly, twice-yearly and yearly plans renew on the same day of the month. When that day doesn't exist (a plan started on the 31st renewing in February), we use the month's last day, then return to the original day when the month allows. Weekly plans renew every 7 days. Past renewal dates roll forward to the next one on or after today.
Tracker statuses and currency
Active plans and free trials count toward your totals, because both will charge you; a trial's "renewal" is the day it turns paid. Paused and cancelled plans are left out of totals, renewals, savings tips and the calendar export. For cancelled plans the tracker shows what they would cost per year had you kept them. The tracker displays one currency of your choice and doesn't convert between currencies.
Team plan costs on pricing pages
Per-user plans cost price per seat × seats × 12 per year, with any published seat minimum applied. "Pay yearly" uses the vendor's yearly per-seat price; if a plan isn't sold on the billing you picked, we use the one it is sold on and say so. Flat plans ignore seat counts. Prices are list prices before tax and discounts.
Savings suggestions in the tracker
- Rarely used: the full yearly cost of a plan you mark as rarely used.
- Yearly billing: 12 × the monthly price minus the yearly price you entered, when positive.
- Overlap: with two or more active plans in video streaming, music, cloud storage, AI tools or news, the yearly cost of the least-used (then most expensive) plan.
The potential-savings total never counts the same subscription twice.
Rounding
We calculate with full precision and round to whole cents only for display, so totals can differ from adding rounded rows by a cent.
What we don't include
Sales tax, currency conversion, promotional first-year prices and provider-specific proration rules aren't modelled. Enter the amounts you're actually charged for the most accurate results, and check each provider's current terms before you buy or cancel.
